Waterboarding revisited

Drowning in controversy

Is he right, is he wrong, do you care?

Vice President Dick Cheney says he supported interrogation tactics that were used against the terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — including that which has been described as “water-boarding.”

“I was aware of the program, certainly, and involved in helping get the process cleared, as the agency in effect came in and wanted to know what they could and couldn’t do,” Cheney says in an interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl. “And they talked to me, as well as others, to explain what they wanted to do. And I supported it. ”

In hindsight, does he believe any of the tactics went too far?

“I don’t,” Cheney says.

“And on KSM, one of those tactics, of course, widely reported was water-boarding,” Karl asks, in the interview conducted today – with excerpts airing on World News with Charles Gibson this evening and the full interview airing on Good Morning America on Tuesday. “That seems to be a tactic we no longer use. Even that you think was appropriate? ”

“I do,” Cheney says.

Cheney is the man. Waterboarding is not torture, it’s all psychological. The recipient is not in any real danger of drowning, done correctly of course, they just think they are. The mind screams in horror from the impulses the body sends and rather than do it again, you’ll hit your Grandma in the head with a snow shovel. Big bad KSM lasted all of about a minute and a half before spilling the goods. He also later claimed that the only reason he talked was the waterboarding. Information by the way that saved lives. He confessed that there were planned attacks against the Sears Tower in Chicago, the Empire State Building and New York Stock Exchange in New York City, the Panama Canal, and Big Ben and Heathrow Airport in London.

I agree 100% with Gil. Anything that will save American lives from terrorists is ok in my book.

I have no sympathy for those terrorists…they wouldn’t think twice about torturing an American! I have to agree with Sally T., anything that will save an American from the terrorists is ok in my book.

Waterboarding? No big deal. I say go Jack Bauer on ‘em – chop off fingers, shoot ‘em in the kneecaps – you know – the shit they would happily do to our soldiers & citizens if given the chance.
