In search of dead stuff

Remember that movie where River Phoenix and a bunch of other child actors roamed the Maine woods all day in search of a dead body next to the train tracks? And how they had a life-changing confrontation with Keifer Sutherland and his gang and we all thought: “Gee. I guess we all have dramatic moments in our youth that signify we are no longer kids but we don’t recognize it until much later when we’re all grown up and reflecting on a more innocent time.”

That way, we can tell ourselves that we were absorbing a message rather than just watching with lurid fascination to see if this group of kids would find the corpse and what they would do with it. Whatever, man. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Anyway, the point is that I went on a similar search for a body when I was a kid. We were told the cadaver could be found off a trail near Devil’s Chair in Waterville and yada yada. We searched all day in the scalding sun and all we ever found were animal bones with a universe of flies buzzing around them. It wasn’t a defining moment for me. In fact, I don’t know if I’ve experienced that defining moment yet.

Anyhoo… Here’s a recent tale from State Police in which still another group of kids thought they might have found their transition into adulthood in the form of a bag full of dead hooker parts.

A trooper responded to Woodstock after several kids found a suitcase and duffle bag under a train trestle in the woods. The boys were curious and opened the duffle bag to find what they believed to be human bones.

They called their dad who came out to their location. The adult opened the bag and located what he believed was a human jaw bone. A trooper, detective and warden responded to the location. Upon arrival, the three officers located a large suitcase under the train bridge. Sticking out of the side was a white sheet with a stain on it, and some women’s night wear.

In the duffle bag, were numerous bones and rope. The remains were identified as animal remains by the identification of a deer skull and a moose skull.

“Stand By Me” one of Deb’s favorite movies. Never looked for bodies as a kid but we did have a witch’s house deep in the woods (well, that’s what it was supposed to be). No road to it & no driveway. Never saw any sign of life, but it wasn’t a crumbling dilapidated place. I made it to the front porch once before losing my (gulp) nerve. Haven’t thought about that house in years.

I consider, what is it — a false way. I have a nice joke for you people! :) Why did the cannibal rush over to the cafeteria? He heard children were half price. 1]cilias online no prescription
