A boy and his stick
Fifteen years ago, I found a stick on the sidewalk outside the Sun Journal. It was a fine stick, freakishly straight and devoid of any large knots or flaws. A beauty, really. So I brought it inside and started poking colleagues with it and a beautiful relationship between boy and stick was born. The sucker still resides on my desk, too. It’s the envy of stick connesiuers everywhere. God, I love that stick. Later, I will post photos of my stick so that all of you might enjoy it. It really is a wonderful stick.
A plain ol’ stick was entered into the National Toy Hall of Fame yesterday. It joins the kite, Mr. Potato Head, Crayloa crayons, the Atari 2600, LEGO, and several dozen other toy greats. Also added this year are the baby doll and the skateboard. More from BoingBoing

Give a kid, or a severely childish man, a stick and a piece of string, possibly an old box too, and he will be amused for hours on end. The possibilities are endless.

It wasn’t a chuckie doll, it was originally “My Buddy” and marketed for boys, because the inventor thought it wasn’t fair that girls get dolls but not boys. So he made a doll for boys to relate to, to project their feelings on, etc. He tried to stop them from from using his doll in those horror movies because it corrupted his intention for the doll, and he lost in court (first amendment) so he took the My Buddy off the market.
